Sonora, CA -- It is the time of year when prescribed burns take place in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Crews are currently working on a 300 acre burn eight miles northeast of Bear Valley. Smoke has been visible from Hwy 4.

Beginning Monday the 240 acre Crandall Creek Burn will begin five miles north of Long Barn in the Mi Wok Ranger District. Two burns will also start Monday about a mile north of Pinecrest in the Summit Ranger District. The Upper Cow Creek Underburn will total 165 acres and the North Beardsley Underburn will be around 65 acres.

Smoke will be visible from Hwy 108.
