Focus On Economic Development

Are there ways Calaveras County can become more business friendly?

That will be one of the main questions up for debate at an economic development study session during Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting. The session was at the request of new District One Supervisor Cliff Edson.

“One of the ideas, possibly, is to take a look at how we are currently processing projects, and what we can do to make it more businesses friendly,” he says.

Edson adds that he is concerned about the high turnover rate he has noticed when it comes to businesses coming and going.

“Many don’t know how hard it is to do business here. Maybe there is a program we can start to help new businesses, to advise them, and keep them around a little longer,” he adds. “There are many different directions that we could take on this.”

The Supervisors are seeking input from the public, as well as area business organizations. The study session will begin at 1:30pm during the regular board meeting.
