Pipe Flushing For Pure Water

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Some Tuolumne County residents may see cloudy or brown water coming out of their tape next week, but Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) says don’t be alarmed. TUD will be flushing water lines in the Sugar Pine and Comstock Ranches area all next week. They say the reason for the flushing is to clear out any sediment or minerals that may accumulate in pipes. The flushing will begin Monday, January 14th and run through Friday, January 18th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in those areas.

TUD warns and recommends customers of these issues when their water lines are being flushed:

• Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of water in drainages or alongside roads. TUD says this is  typical during flushing.
• Your tap pressure may fluctuate. If the problems persist after the flushing, call the District.
• During flushing do not do laundry as it may cause water to become discolored. Also, try to limit indoors tap use so you do not draw in the water TUD is trying to flush.
• If you have cloudy water after the pipes have been flushed, TUD says to turn on your outside hose bibb. That will get any sediment out of the line before water goes into your home.

TUD says the line flushings happen every year for the entire district to ensure water quality. This year’s flushing will run through March 2013.
