Murphys Fire Victims Identified

Angels Camp, CA -- The Calaveras County Coroner's Office has confirmed the identities of the two seniors who died as a result of the fire that destroyed their home early Monday morning at 2441 Butte Mountain Rd. in the Murphys area.

82 year old Robert Wight and his wife, 81 year old Joanne Wight, perished in the fire that was initially reported at 4:26am. Asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation was listed as the cause of death.

The fire completely destroyed the two story structure and spread to a quarter of an acre of vegetation.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury. He was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
