McClintock Claims "Moral Victory"
Republican state Senator Tom McClintock claimed a moral victory as he conceded defeat before supporters in Sacramento Tuesday night. The conservative lawmaker said his ideas of slashing taxes and government programs has caught on with voters and other candidates.
McClintock refused to drop out of the race, despite figures showing he lagged behind two other replacement candidates and fears he might split the Republican vote.
McClintock says he has congratulated Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger and promised to support him in "challenging and confronting and defeating the spending lobby that´s entrenched in the halls of this state." He said he would continue to support the more moderate Schwarzenegger "to the extent we share a similar agenda."
