Farmers have come up with a plan to preserve farmland in San Joaquin County.

The area is one of the fastest growing in the state, so the local farm bureau has proposed that developers pay a fee when they build on farmland. The money

would be used to set land aside for agriculture in other places. The plan is in its initial steps, and would have to be proposed to the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.
