Sonora, CA -- An altercation at a downtown Sonora bar early this morning has landed two Sonora men in jail.

At 1:25 am, Sonora Police officers were dispatched to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Reports indicate 25-year-old Joe Mendiola said that he was drinking and playing pool, when he noticed 23 year old Rangel Tun-Che, who he has had physical confrontations with in the past.

Mendiola stated Tun-Che approached him and accused him of drinking his beer, which Mendiola denied doing.

Tun-Che then told Mendiola that he was going to kill him. A few minutes later, Tun-Che walked up behind Mendiola and struck him in the face with a pool cue.

Officials say Tun-Che was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for assault with a deadly weapon.

Mendiola was also transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for assault, and public intoxication.
