Public Works Director Resigns
Calaveras County Public Works Director Tom Garcia
San Andreas, CA -- Calaveras County's Director of Public Works and Transportation has stepped down.
Tom Garcia informed the county via a letter sent to the Board of Supervisors. The letter praised staff, but never stated exactly why he is leaving his post. We tried to contact Garcia, but he has not returned our phone calls at this stories posting.
Here is Garcia's letter of resignation:
January 16, 2014
Chair and Board of Supervisors,
Please accept this letter as formal notification that I will be leaving my position as Director of Public Works and Transportation for Calaveras County on January 24, 2014.
It has been my honor and privilege to work alongside the most dedicated and resourceful public servants one could hope to find. Over the last five years, I have seen the positive changes in the Department of Public Works and County due to the hard work of the employees. I would especially like to acknowledge the contributions to the County from land use team, specifically the Building Official and recently departed Planning Director, Technical Services Director, as well as the Deputy Director of Public Works. Although it saddens me to join the ranks of former Calaveras management, I feel heartened that the projects, programs, and policies that have benefited the residents are in good hands and can continue forward.
I would like to thank the staff for supporting the Department's efforts to provide for the needs of the County in creative, unique, and bold ways. With their help, the Department now manages hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of improvement projects that would likely never have been considered possible.
It has been a pleasure to have been part of a team that implemented positive changes in the County and I look forward to hearing great things about Calaveras County from all corners of the State.
Tom Garcia, P.E.
