Update 10:15 a.m.: Yosemite National Park Ranger Scott Gediman reports crews have cleared the roadway of snow allowing High 120 Tioga Pass to be reopened.

Update 8:50 a.m.:  Highway 120 Tioga pass remains closed due to snow.  Yosemite Park Ranger Scott Gediman has this update: “We’re going  to assess it this morning…crews will see if they can get the snow off the roadway. It just depends on the weather throughout the day.   We have every intention to try to get it open…but safety is our number one concern of course.” All the rest of the Mountain Passes are open for the holiday weekend.  Highway conditions can be found anytime by going to myMotherlode.com’s home page and enter the keyword: traffic or click here.

Update 8:05 a.m.: Highway 108 Sonora Pass is open. Caltrans spokesperson Rick Estrada says, “Crews were able to clear the snow overnight and the roadway is open for Memorial Day travel.”

Original post 7:33 a.m.: Sonora, CA — The wet weather in the region has two of the Mountain Passes closed, but it is not clear whether the shutdown will run through the heavily traveled Memorial Day Weekend.

Traffic was halted on Highway 120 Tioga Pass last night due to snow. The roadway is closed at Crane Flat.  Highway 108 Sonora Pass was shut down Monday afternoon in anticipation of this week’s wet weather in the higher elevations.  The closures could affect holiday travel, as there is no word when or if the roadways will reopen for the weekend.  Caltrans spokesperson Angela DaPrado notes the goal is to reopen as quickly as possible to meet the demand for holiday travel. DaPrato says, “Crews will inspect 108 this afternoon and depending on what they find…If there is debris or snow removal needed,  it will be done and the roadway will open up after that.”

Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass, Highway 88 Carson Pass, and Highway 89 Monitor Pass are open. Highway conditions can be found anytime by going to myMotherlode.com’s home page and enter the keyword: traffic or click here.
