A Stolen Golf Cart Leads To Arrests
Calaveras County Sheriff's Office
Valley Springs, CA -- Juveniles, a golf cart with a cooler filled with liquor and spray paint don't mix.
Calaveras Sheriff's Deputies responded to the La Contenta Golf Course on Highway 26 in Valley Springs recently for a report of vandalism and theft. Deputies found that a golf cart with a mounted cooler with alcohol inside had been taken from a storage shed. They also discovered that a truck in the parking lot overnight had been put into neutral and rolled into an electrical box. Once inside the golf clubhouse, they saw vandals had spray painted the walls.
Later that day, the golf cart was recovered. It was parked at the intersection of Highway 26 and Milton Road. An investigation led detectives to two 17 year old males and one 16 year old male. The three come from Burson, Jenny Lind, and Railroad Flat areas. Sheriff's Officials say the three told investigators they had been at a party and allegedly vandalized the property and stole the golf cart.
La Contenta staff found the cart and reported it was totaled. Sheriff's Officials estimate the damage at $15,300for the cart, $500for alcohol, $5,800 for the electrical box and $200 for the vandalism.
Deputies say each of the suspects blamed the others for the crime spree and all had different versions of what happened. All three juveniles were either given a citation and released to their parents, or arrested and turned over to the Calaveras County Probation Department. They all face felony burglary, grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of or receiving stolen property. They are also charged with misdemeanor vandalism and tampering with a vehicle, Sheriff's Officials say the names of the suspects are being withheld due to their ages.
