Evacuation Order In Mariposa County
Burning Op Fire at Night Rim Fire 08-30-13
Tuolumne County, CA -- The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office has issued a mandatory evacuation for areas north and south of Bull Creek Road to Little Grizzly Mountain. That order started late last night.
The Rim Fire now runs a total of 333 square miles or 213,414 acres and is 35% contained. There are 4,844 firefighters battling the blaze with a total cost of $54 million dollars to date.
Incident Command reports last night's operations included continued back burning efforts as well as providing structure defense. There were multiple burning operations Friday including Pilot Ridge, Pilot Peak and Crocker Ridge, south from Hetch Hetchy toward Harden Lake on the eastern flank, and near Hells Mountain on the north end of the fire. Fire Officials say crews are still working to remove fuels next to fire lines in front of burnouts that are expected to continue through the weekend.
Evacuation advisories remain in effect for the southside of the Highway 108 corridor from North Tuolumne Road to Pinecrest. Ponderosa Hills is still under an advisory and it is off limits to the public with only resident and fire personnel being allowed into that area. Buchanan at Cottonwood Roads and Sunrise Drive are still closed to traffic.
