Rim Fire Cancels Major Events In The Mother Lode
Sonora, Ca --Smoke and fire activities have shut down roads and prompted big events across the Mother Lode to be cancelled. This Saturday's Meals on Wheels fundraiser at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown has been postponed. The Film Fest Twain Harte will not take place the weekend of August 31st. It will return in 2014.
The Strawberry Music Festival is also postponed. Organizers have been advised that they will not be able to hold the festival due to its proximity to the fire. The event is held at Camp Mather which is at the Eastern edge of the 105,000 acre Rim Fire that is only two percent contained. The festival was scheduled to take place one week from today on August 29 to September 2. Due to smoke and the number of people anticipated to travel to the festival the County has revoked their event permit. This will prevent more people using the roads that the fire crews are using.
Also, the Twain Harte Concert in the Park scheduled for Saturday will not take placed. The Twain Harte Community Yard Sale is also cancelled. The Groveland and Tuolumne City Libraries will be closed for at least the remainder of the week.
Big Oak Flat School District, Mother Lode Christian School and it's Preschool are also closed. View the Schools Delays and Closures page here. The Tuolumne County Youth Saturday Soccer games at Standard Field have been canceled due to poor air quality. Mike Chapel Recreation Supervisor of Tuolumne County says all activities at Standard Field are cancelled for the weekend.
The VA Clinic in Sonora will also be closed tomorrow. For more fire information view "Time To Leave" here.
