Rodefer Addresses Tuolumne County Water

Sonora, CA — Three of the five seats on the Tuolumne Utility District (TUD) Board are up for election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.  One election race is for a seat that is a short two year term and another race is for two seats for the full four year term. Karl Rodefer, County Supervisor District 5, says water rights come into play when considering the 11 candidates who are running for the TUD Board.

Supervisor Rodefer says, “In addition to dealing in this dynamic State water environment, the new Board will choose the next TUD General Manager. That individual will exert influence on the direction that water planning takes.” His full remarks are in his new Blog “Tuolumne County Water” here.

Rodefer says “In reality we are in a 14 year drought… we need to learn from this experience and begin to implement policies and actions necessary to bring our water and sewer systems in line with the County’s needs in the future — a future which most climate experts believe will be significantly different than the past.” He notes, “If extreme conservation is how we solve our normal problems we will have no flexibility to deal with future emergencies.”

Rodefer concludes, “The simple truth is that a failure to invest in our future is a sure path to future failure. To make these kinds of efforts affordable for our people, we need to explore innovative ways to increase revenue.” He adds the warning, “The rest of the State is out of the starting blocks investing in infrastructure and buying up water.”

Supervisor Rodefer encourages everyone to “Educate yourself on all, not just your favorite issues and vote wisely. The stakes have never been greater.”
