Heroes Day In The Foothills Blood Drive

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The fifth annual Clarke Broadcasting Heroes Day in the Foothills Blood Drive is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 26th. According to Delta Blood Bank, the number of donors declined this summer. The blood bank says there is currently a national shortage and explains; “The Independence Day holiday falling on Friday reduced the number of blood drives scheduled in early July. Many sponsors did not host drives because people took vacations either over the long weekend or for the entire week.”

AM1450 KVML, Star 92.7 FM, KKBN 93.5 FM and myMotherLode.com will join with the Delta Blood Bank of Sonora to put on a community blood drive.

The Delta Blood Bank provides blood to 15 community hospitals and serves five counties. The Blood Bank reports that one out of every 10 hospitalized patients needs blood and, “The summer can be among the most challenging times of the year for blood and platelet donations as regular donors delay giving while they take vacations and participate in summer activities. When school is out of session for summer break, donations from those who normally give on campus tend to drop by more than 80 percent.”

The community blood drive will be held on August 26th from 11 AM to 6:00 PM at the Delta Blood Bank of Sonora, located at 850 Sanguinetti Road. Donors are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 1-888-94-BLOOD ext 200. Walk-ins will also be accepted.

As a thank you, donors will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a complimentary lunch.
