Calaveras Supervisors To Hold Night Meeting

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Supervisors will meet next week to talk about topics like the Highway 4 Wagon Trail realignment and the proposed Mokelumne River Wild and Scenic Designation.

The Board has scheduled an evening meeting this coming Tuesday at 6pm. The Board voted this past February to support a Wild and Scenic designation designed to protect the Mokelumne River. The proposal was recently introduced by state lawmakers in Sacramento. It has been a controversial topic in the community. It would allow the river to freely flow, and could create new rafting and tourist opportunities, but it would also prevent any type of new dams or development projects. The Board is scheduled to reassess its stance.

The Board will also vote whether to amend the Memorandum of Understanding with the Calaveras Council of Governments related to the Highway 4 wagon trail project. The realignment effort has been in the works for several years. The revised MOU would bump up the maximum amount to be spent on the environmental documentation and planning to $1.5 million.

These are among several items that will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting, which is open to the public.
