More Lightning Fires In Forest

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — This week there have been five lightning-caused fires located in the Stanislaus National Forest.

It has kept firefighters, including smoke jumpers, busy this week. Forest Service Spokesperson Rebecca Garcia says each has been kept under ¼ acre in size. Most of the fires have been in the Summit Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest. Three were spotted on Tuesday, and the other two on Wednesday. There was some lightning in the area last night, but no new fires have been located this morning.

The Forest Service notes that more lightning is possible over the next 24 hours, so fire crews will remain on heavy alert.
