How Hot Was It?
Changing Weather In Tuolumne County
Sonora, CA -- Did we have record highs in the Mother Lode over the weekend?
Stephanie Henry with the National Weather Service regional office in Sacramento reports that it was very close. "According to our database, Sonora reached 100 degrees on Saturday, which tied the record of 100 degrees in 1973 and 1977," she says. "On Friday, Sonora reached 91, and the record was 99 back in 1977."
Henry notes that Sonora has one of the few Regional Climate Data Centers in the foothills, so they are able to get official numbers for historical purposes. While there is not a climate data center in Calaveras County, she notes that a volunteer for the National Weather Service reported a temperature of 107 on Saturday in San Andreas. However, they cannot consider it an official temperature for their record keeping purposes.
