Marijuana Grow Bust

Sponsored by:

Chinese Camp, CA — A marijuana grow was destroyed in Tuolumne County and the owner of the land had no idea it had been planted.

The grow was located on property adjacent to Bureau of Land Management Property in the Red Hills Recreation Area south of Chinese Camp.  Yesterday, members of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office and narcotics team destroyed 4,581 marijuana plants on the property with a street value of $458,100.

“The property owner lives outside of the area and was unaware of the marijuana grow on her property,” says Sgt. Scott Johnson with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. “By the pattern of the grow, the method of operation, and some evidence that was at the scene, they believe it was another Transnational Criminal Organization Operation and that is the new term being used for Mexican drug cartels.”

No suspects, weapons or ammunition were found at the scene.   All the marijuana was destroyed at the site. The narcotics team is conducting an ongoing investigation.
