Copperopolis, CA -- The Calaveras County Supervisors will take up the 243 acre Sawmill Lake subdivision.
Castle and Cooke's proposed housing development would be situated just south of the Copperopolis Town Square. The Sawmill Lake proposal was first brought to the county in 2006, and has since been going through the review process.
The project did not receive the endorsement of the Calaveras County Planning Commission when it was heard in December. The final vote was 2-3. At the time, there were concerns raised about water supply for the development, and whether it fits with the General Plan. Proponents claimed that it would provide an economic boost, and create additional housing that will be needed as the region grows in the coming years. County documents show that the proposal calls for 417 lots, and a maximum of 800 dwelling units.
The public hearing on the Sawmill Flat project is scheduled for 1:30pm on Tuesday as part of the Supervisors regular meeting.
