Senior Lounge Remains Closed

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The City of Sonora’s Senior Lounge at 125 North Washington Street has been closed for several weeks, and the city is releasing new information as to why.

The following statement has been released by City of Sonora Administrator Tim Miller: “The City made this decision because of a number of disagreements between patrons and volunteers concerning scheduled activities and activity participants, as well as an alleged dispute between family members that required the involvement of the Sonora Police Department. The City’s goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for our volunteers, patrons and visitors. As a result of these incidents, the City’s staff will review staffing and operational parameters. The Sonora City Council will review any proposed changes and provide the City’s staff with directions regarding the implementation of those proposed changes. Until these events occur, the City will keep the Senior Lounge closed. The City appreciates the public’s patience during this temporary closure.”

The adjacent Fire Museum, also owned by the City, will remain open on weekends, and for scheduled events.
