Calaveras County Tap Troubles?

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Water woes across the state and in the Mother Lode has some districts calling on customer’s to turn off their taps.

In Tuolumne County, the Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) board voted last night to enact immediate mandatory water restrictions due to the drought conditions. Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) officials say they are not at that point at this time. In the beginning of January, CCWD asked their customers to cut water use by 20 gallons per person a day voluntarily.

CCWD General Manager Mitchell Dion says, “I’m confident in CC that we will have adequate supply for our community at least for one more year. I am confident if we get a little more rain we will be secure for the summer.”

Dion explains they have reliable water sources in the Stanislaus and Mokelumne Rivers. However, he does stress that the Upper Calaveras Water Shed will be a challenge because it relies on rainfall. Dion warns all customers to continue to conserve water saying, “I’m not going to suggest that we won’t have some restrictions coming in this year.”
