Berryhill: Support Lacks For New Fishing License

Sponsored by:

Senator Tom Berryhill says legislation that would create a fishing license that lasts 12 consecutive months, regardless of when it’s purchased, does not have enough support to move forward.

“Once again Sacramento ignores the chance to make government work for the people of California,” says Berryhill. “The current system of obtaining a fishing license can be impractical for those of us that enjoy fishing in California’s streams, rivers and lakes.”

Currently a fishing license runs one calendar year, from January to December. However, if the license is purchased in the Spring, Summer or Fall, the full price still applies.

“Fishing is big business in California,” added Berryhill. “This bill would have encouraged more people to participate in the sport and, I believe, ultimately generated more income for the state and certainly the communities surrounding popular fishing holes.”

Berryhill’s legislation was introduced last year, and missed a key deadline this session to move forward. Berryhill’s District 14 covers Tuolume and Calaveras Counties.
