Copperopolis, CA -- The Bomb Squad is on the scene of the robbery at the Firefall Jewelry Store in Copperopolis. The area has been evacuated. Calaveras County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Chris Hewitt says, "During a search of the area, the deputies found what they described as a suspicious package behind the store. We did call our Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit to inspect that package to find out what it is. It takes them a while to actually deploy the equipment to x-ray and inspect that package."

This afternoon around 2:30 a massive search began for the suspect who used a hand grenade to threaten store clerks and steal jewelry. Hewitt says deputies were searching along Highway 4 and stopping cars until around 5:30p.m.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 5'10" wearing a red hat and black sweat jacket. Hewitt says they are also looking for what may have been the get-a-way vehicle. It is a dark green or teal Ford Ranger side step pick-up truck. If you have any information call the Sherriff's Department at 209-754-6500.

Update 6 p.m.: Sheriff's Officials say the bomb threat has been called off. The Bomb Squad x-rayed the package and there was nothing in it.
