New Unemployment Statistics
Sonora, CA -- The number of people in the Mother Lode receiving unemployment benefits edged up last month.
Tuolumne County's rate in December was 11.2 percent, as opposed to 10.6 percent in November. Calaveras County was up to 12 percent last month, compared to 11.8 percent the month prior. The state's rate was unchanged at 9.8 percent. Categories that added jobs over the past month are construction, information, education and health services. Categories that posted a loss include mining/logging, manufacturing, trade, transportation and hospitality.
The statistics were compiled by the state's Employment Development Department.
