What Is Vision Sonora?
Sonora City Council
The City of Sonora would like to improve the city, and they would like the residents to help.
Sonora City Council Member Matt Hawkins was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".
The state funded Community Revitalization Plan aims to address several concerns within the city.
Hawkins said, "Some of the issues we are discussing include public transit facilities, lack of parking spaces, uneven sidewalks, burned and abandoned buildings, traffic congestion and historic preservation."
Funded by a $225,000 Caltrans grant, the City is working with the Tuolumne County Transportation Council.
The plan encompasses downtown Sonora and the highway 108 and 49 corridors that lead into Sonora.
"We want to hear from the public," said Hawkins. "We call this the "Vision Sonora" part of the plan.
Residents are invited to give their input on the areas of the city they feel needs improvement.
Additionally, there will be a public event planned for January 16 through the 19th, called "Visioning Week."
Hawkins credits fellow Council Member Bill Canning for really getting the ball rolling on this project.
The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
