Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce recognized community leaders last night at the annual Installation and Honors Banquet.

The prestigious Citizen of the Year Award was given to Julie VonSavoye. "It is very sweet to be recognized, and I appreciate it," says VonSavoye. "I get to work with a lot of fun, energetic and caring people. That's the best part for me." VonSavoye is active in various community organizations and has helped plan numerous events, such as the annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser at Railtown.

Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Joe Silva received the Excellence in Government Award, Mike Albrecht of Sierra Resource Management was the Entrepreneur of the Year, the Teachers of the Year were Kevin Jedlicka and Ida Ponder, and the students of the year were Taylor Powell, Alyssa Madrigal and Katherine Hohne.

Also last night, Margaret Davis took over as the new chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors.

The event was held at the Sonora Elks Lodge.
