Sonora, CA - Measure J, the $23 million Sonora High School bond measure was the only race left still too close to call in Tuolumne County, but now Elections Official Debi Russell-Bautista says the vote-by-mail ballots should put it over the top.

"The Sonora Bond Measure actually improved and now it is at 56 percent so it looks like it will pass," says Russell-Bautista.

School bond measures require a 55 percent majority to pass. While the measure has 56 percent, there are still 1,313 provisional ballots to count which could change that percentage. However, Bautista says that chance is slim as the total votes are 8,823 to 6,875.

As for Measure H, an $8 million bond measure for Summerville High School, the vote-by-mail ballots were not enough to pass it with only 54.26 percent approval.

The Elections Office will start counting the provisional ballots on Tuesday and hope to have the final tally by the end of the week.
