There are several events this weekend many are in honor Veterans Day.

Saturday morning at 8am is the Marine Corps Birthday Breakfast at the Sonora Elk Lodge. All Marines, their families and friends are welcome.

Starting at 10:45am is the 12th Annual Veterans Recognition Day at the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church Gymnasium, 40 North Forest Road in Sonora. According to the event listing: No matter when, where, which branch, enlisted, or officer, you are invited to join your fellow Veterans and current service personnel. Details are available here.

The Mother Lode Idol 2012 continues from Friday night to the finals on Saturday at 6 pm at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Each Idol contestant represents a local non-profit and proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit Friends of the Fair. For ticket information visit the event listing.

There are several holiday season events this weekend first the 'Taste of the Holidays' Celebration at Copperopolis Town Square starts is 1pm - 4pm. Providing a jump-start to the holiday season, the event will include live music, 14 local vineyards to pair wines with special festive dishes and desserts. Participating stores will display decorations and gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season.

Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Blitz is from 10am-12pm
in Downtown Sonora. Touted as the world's largest Christmas project of its kind-this event kicks off a National Collection Week with life-size shoe boxes to bring awareness and encourage people to participate. For details about the project visit the event listing.

On Saturday and Sunday the Greeley Hill Christmas Craft Fair
is also starts at 10am. There will be a variety of hand-crafted items plus home-made soups, salads, punch, coffee and desserts available for purchase. For location and more details view the event listing.

There will be a Christmas Holiday Boutique to support HSOTC's Spay/Neuter programs is from 9am to 3pm in the HSOTC Conference Room, 10040 Victoria Way in Jamestown.

The calendar has also been updated with many outdoor event listings for Ranger-led activities offered by the Department of the Interior's 'Let's Move Outside initiative' and the Bureau Reclamation. The list of those events are here.

More Sunday events are also listed here including the traditional Veterans Day Salute at Columbia Public Cemetery Veterans Section. The Columbia Foot Dragoons and Grenadine Belles in a salute to honor Veterans in their final resting place.
