County Looks To Replace Bridges

Sonora, CA -- Tuolumne County is hoping to replace several aging bridges.
The County Supervisors directed staff members this week to prepare federal funding applications for the replacement of bridges on Wards Ferry Road, Rawhide Road, and Crystall Falls Drive. In addition, they are hoping to receive funds to rehabilitate a bridge on Ponderosa Way and replace a ford on Red Hills Road with a bridge.
The county has listed two bridges as the top priorities. They are the bridge on Wards Ferry Road, crossing Deer Creek, and the Rawhide Road Bridge over Peppermint Creek. The single lane Wards Ferry Bridge was built in 1915, and the county would like to make it a two lane bridge. The estimated cost is $1.2 million. The plan for Rawhide Road is to replace the existing concrete slab bridge with a concrete single span bridge. The existing bridge was built in 1930 and widened in 1953. The estimated cost is $1.3 million.
The county is hoping to receive money that is available through the Federal Highway Administration.
