With the holiday season approaching, it is a busy time for local food banks.

"The need is definitely up this year," says Anthony Martinez, Operations Manager for the ATCAA Food Bank in Jamestown. "With the cost of fuel, and unemployment rate, I would say that our numbers will probably double this year."

Martinez says thirteen-to-fifteen thousand people benefit from the ATCAA Food Bank each month. They are in the process of collecting food items for families in need this Thanksgiving. Red barrels are dispersed at various locations across the community.

On a related note, the Twain Harte Volunteer Fire Association will be collecting food this Friday for people in need. Firefighters will be at the Twain Harte Arch, the Shopping Center and along Twain Harte Drive. Food collected will go to local food banks and churches. The food drive will run from 9am to 8pm.
