A Small Price To Pay?
Governor Jerry Brown
Sacramento, CA - The Associated Press reports Governor Jerry Brown is telling college students the sales tax part of his initiative is a small price to pay.
Brown spoke to about 100 students today at Sacramento City College. Brown told them the sales tax is needed and would be a small price to pay to create a more stable budget. He was there to promote his tax increase initiative or Proposition 30.
Prop. 30 would raise the state sales tax a quarter and increase incomes taxes on earners making over $250,000. The AP reports Prop 30 would draw most of its revenue from the income tax increase on the wealthiest Californians.
A rival budget measure on the November ballot is Proposition 38 which would increase income taxes on most Californians, not just the highest earners.
