Sonora, CA -- Sonora's Planning Commission is recommending rezoning property behind the Main Branch of the Tuolumne County Library on Greenley Road.

Tuolumne County owns the 16 acre parcel of land and applied for the rezoning. The county is asking for an amendment to the General Plan from Public to High Density Residential and rezoning from Planned Development to Multi-Family Residential.

City Development Director Rachelle Kellogg says, "The commission is recommending the rezoning because it is a compatible use for the area. The surrounding properties, some of which are also multi-family as well, and you have commercial and single family. They felt it was a good fit for that area."

The commission's recommendation now goes to the city council for final approval.
