Sacramento, CA - The Associated Press reports a state senator is calling for a legislative hearing regarding California's oil refineries. This proceeds a Chevron announcement that a unit at its Richmond refinery will remain closed until next year.

Democratic Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco says recent price spikes and shortages "indicate serious problems'' with the state's 15 refineries.

The AP also says California gas prices have finally begun to fall. The past month saw prices surge by nearly 50 cents a gallon. It is noted, however, that the continued shutdown of the Chevron refinery may keep supplies low and prices up.

AAA says the average price has dropped half a cent from yesterday bringing the average price in the state to $4.75 a gallon. In Sonora the average is $4.50 and in San Andreas it is $4.59 a gallon as reported on our Gas Prices page here.
