Sonora, CA - Tuolumne Utilities District (T.U.D.) says it needs customers to conserve water during "The Ditch Outage". They say the ditches that supply water to TUD's treatment plant will not be working since PG & E will be doing regular maintenance on the main canal. The work will start Monday, October 8th and continue through Monday, October 15, 2012.

T.U.D. Spokesperson Lisa Westbrook says "The ditches are not going to be in service so the water we are relying on is in water storage tanks so we are asking all our customers to conserve water."

T.U.D. says conservation during this time will help provide adequate water supply for drinking, sanitary usage and fire protection.

They say residents can help by:

  • Limit outside watering
  • Do not wash cars or hose down driveways
  • Turn off automatic lawn and drip sprinkler timers
  • Repair water leaks

T.U.D. is also asking customers to continue to conserve water for one week after the outage in order to recover water storage.
