Yosemite, CA -- It's all part of National Public Lands Day. Today all entrance fees are waived in an effort to get families to enjoy the great outdoors.

Park Officials say National Public Lands Day is also the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public lands. They say in 2011, 150,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, and removed trash and invasive plants on public lands across the country.

Park Officials say their major clean-up effort is the Yosemite Facelift project where volunteers pick up trash. Last year, 4,295 pounds of small trash and 411,447 pounds of old asphalt and concrete were hauled out of the park. Park Officials say over 1,300 volunteers helped with the Facelift effort.

There is one more weekend visitors can get this deal. Entrance fees will also be waived on Veterans Day Weekend, November 10 -12.

One note, it's free to enter the park, but all camping, lodging or activities in the park will still cost you.
