State Marijuana Vote?

Sponsored by:

Californians may soon vote, once again, whether to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

The Secretary of State’s Office reports that proponents have submitted the proper paperwork and can now start collecting needed signatures for a ballot measure. It would apply retail taxes to marijuana sales, and some of the revenue would be earmarked for education, healthcare, law enforcement, drug abuse education, and commission expenses.

54% of Californians voted down a similar marijuana ballot measure in 2010. However, a new Field Poll released on December 10th found that 56% of California voters would now support a ballot measure to decriminalize marijuana. The ballot measure would call for marijuana to be legal for residents over the age of 21.

The ballot measure was filed by pro-cannabis activists John W. Lee, Bob Bowerman, Dege Coutee and Dave Hodges.
