Tax Plan Losing Support?
Sacramento, CA -- A majority of likely California voters support Governor Jerry Brown's tax plan, but the margin is shrinking.
This is according to a new Field Poll that was released this morning. It finds that 51% intend to vote yes, 36% no, and 13% are undecided. Proposition 30 would raise the state's sales tax to 7.5% from current 7.25%, and increase income taxes on earners making over $250K.
A similar Field Poll conducted in early July found 54% in favor, 38% against and 8% undecided.
The latest poll found 66% of Democrats in favor, 27% of Republicans and 55% of those that do not side with a political party.
The poll shows that a competing tax measure, Proposition 39, does not have the needed support to pass. 41% are in favor, 44% against and 15% are undecided.
