Two Suffer Major Injuries In HWY 49 Crash

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – A major injury accident shut down Highway 49 at the Stevenot Bridge for a while yesterday, December 11th. Robert Gold, a 55 year old resident of Tuolumne and April Anderson, a 55 year old from Sonora sustained major injuries in a high speed collision.

Gold was going southbound in his Volkswagen south of the Calaveras County line at approximately 60 miles per hour. Anderson was driving a Toyota northbound at about 55 miles per hour. For an unknown reason Gold drifted over the double yellow lines, across the northbound lane and into the east shoulder. He then drove back into the northbound lane and his Volkswagen collided with the front of Anderson’s Toyota. The force of the impact forced the Toyota across the southbound lane and into the descending embankment where it collided with a group of trees. Gold’s vehicle came to rest partially in the right shoulder and partly within the southbound lane of HWY 49.

Both Gold and Anderson were taken to a hospital with unspecified major injuries. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor in the collision.
