Angels Camp Museum Adds Attractions And Fires Director

Angels Camp, CA - Angels Camp Museum Officials say the Artisan's Exhibit takes you back in time and its part of the brain child of former Museums Director Craig Hadley who was terminated from that position this week. In an earlier MML article,  the city gave few details to exactly why Hadley was let go except to say he was a part time employee and at-will meaning either side could terminate their agreement for no cause.

Museum Officials say Hadley help in the concept and working of these new exhibits which features live demonstrations and interaction for the whole family.

Angels Camp Museum Foundation Representative Lindy Miller says "The Museum plans to have someone there almost all the time and they also plan to have interactive tools and items that families can actually put their hands on and use to get a little bit more involved experience."

The three new exhibits include:

• A fully-functional late 19th century carpenters shop
• A fully functional turn-of-the-20th century print shop
• A late 19th century textiles manufacturing area

Museum Officials say the new exhibits demonstrate, on a regular basis, the crafts and trades that built Angels Camp and the surrounding region from the Gold Rush era through the 20th century. They say interactive components of these exhibits will be made available to families as well as school groups for more in-depth understanding of these artisan skills.

Museum Officials say the addition of the exhibits marks the beginning of a long-range plan to add new interactive and state-of-the-art exhibits to the Angels Camp Museum.

Miller says "Plans are in the works to make several changes. They are revamping the front of the museum so it will be found more easily by visitors. They've got an interesting carriage with a very relevant local history that will soon be on display as well as a working blacksmith shop and improving a gold mining and gold panning exhibit."

The museum is open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. For more information call 209-736-2963.
