Tuolumne County, CA - Caltrans is permanently closing down Highway108 at Seaborn Road south of the East Sonora Bypass.

Caltrans reports effective immediately Seaborn Road is no longer a through street and motorists do not have access to Highway 108 using this road. Traffic has been rerouted onto the newly paved Christie May Lane and Frontage Road. Caltrans says construction on the frontage road connecting highway 108 with both Seaborn Road and Waif Road is now open.

This work is part of the $52.9 million Highway 108 East Sonora Bypass Stage II Project which began on April 19, 2012. The project will construct a two lane expressway on a new alignment from Peaceful Oak Road to Via Este Road.

The project will be built as a continuation of the East Sonora Bypass Stage I, which was completed in 2002. A partial interchange at Peaceful Oak Road, a grade separation at Mono Way and a temporary at-grade "T" intersection connecting Mono Way to the new expressway will also be built. This project received $14.53 million from Proposition 1B, the $19.9 billion transportation bond approved by voters in 2006.

Caltrans says the project will ease congestion, improve mobility, decrease travel times, improve operations, and enhance safety for both commute and recreational traffic in Tuolumne County.
