Penn Fire Near Murphys

CAL FIRE officials expect the Penn Fire near Murphys to reach full containment by sometime tomorrow, but how long it will take to extinguish the Graham Fire remains uncertain.

The size of the Penn Fire has been downgraded from initial estimates. CAL FIRE reports that the 134 acre fire is currently 60 per cent contained. One building was destroyed and 12 homes were initially threatened. There are no current evacuation orders. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

There are 202 firefighters on scene, and cooperating agencies include the CHP, US Forest Service, National Park Service, Murphys Fire, NCPA, Calaveras SO, Altaville Melones Fire, Ebbetts Pass Fire, CA Dept. of Corrections and PG&E. To view a map of the area, click here.

The Graham Fire, northeast of Groveland, is now 20 percent contained and 100 acres. 20 residences have been put on alert that there remains the possibility of evacuation orders. The residences are in the areas of Clifton Way and Clements Road. 481 firefighters are on scene. Other agencies assisting include the U.S. Forest Service, Groveland Community Services District, Tuolumne County SO, Tuolumne County Fire, Ca. Department of Corrections, and PG&E. It is unknown when the fire will be contained. It has been difficult to fight because of accessibility issues, and they are relying heavily on air tankers and helicopters.
