Holiday Weekend To Remember Veterans

Several events are listed in the events calendar this weekend, including Monday, Veterans Day.

Veterans Recognition Day at the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist church gymnasium is Saturday from 10:45am to 1:30pm. For the 13th consecutive year the event is designed to honor all veterans of all military branches, all wars, men and women. For more information view the full Veterans Recognition Day listing here.

There are also several church activities this weekend including the St. Patrick’s Church Christmas Festival on Saturday. For all the details view the St. Patricks Church Christmas Festival here.

The 5th Annual Nutcracker Tea Party will be held on Saturday as well at the Senior Center in Sonora. This tea party is hosted by Soroptimist International of Sonora. Proceeds from the event will go to the Scholarship Program which benefits graduates of Sonora & Cassina High Schools and those attending Columbia College. The Greenley Hill Christmas Craft Faire in Coulterville is both Saturday and Sunday at the Community Hall on Fiske Rd. Details are in the Craft Fair listing here.

Sunday is “Come to Tea with Dolly & Me” a Columbia College Scholarship Fundraiser. Sponsored by the Aronos Club, you can expect tea, luncheon buffet, doll show, raffles and prizes. Details about the Tea event are here.

Also Sunday is the Sonora Emblem Club #124 Veterans Day Breakfast. Held from 8:00am to 11:00am at the Sonora Elk Lodge there will also be many items for sale. View the Breakfast details here.

Frank Smart, a local veterans activist, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” for a few other events view the news story “Veterans Day Weekend Activities”

Monday is the Copperopolis Veterans of Foreign Wars Veterans Day Parade and Celebration. Expect marching units, WWII military jeeps, Ladies VFW Auxiliary float, classic cars, motorcycle groups from Stockton and Sacrament and Manteca and more. View the event listing for details.

The Annual Murphys Veteran’s Day Ceremony will be held at the EPVMD monument which is located creekside on Algiers Street across from the Murphys Park in Murphys. The Calaveras Community Band will begin greeting patrons at 9:30 with the ceremony official getting under way at 10 am. More details about the Ceremony are here.
