Sponsored by:

Lakeshore, CA — A large fire south of the Mother Lode has been causing quite a little drift smoke in the region.

A lightning caused fire in the Sierra National Forest is estimated to be nearly 9,000 acres. It was first spotted this past Monday, and Forest Service officials report that it has grown significantly over the past few days. 1,389 firefighters are on scene, and it is 15% contained.

The fire is located near Shaver Lake, and 16 campgrounds in that area have been evacuated. Forest Service officials say there is still high growth potential due to the steep and difficult terrain in the area.
