Vegetation Fire In Sonora

Sonora, CA — Fire Fighters and the Columbia planes are heading to a vegetation fire in Sonora. The fire is on the 20,000 block of Lyons Bald Mountain Road off of Greenley Road. There are reports of a plume of black smoke that can be seen from downtown Sonora. There is no word on size, rate of spread or whether any structures are in danger. We will bring you more details as soon as they are available.

Update: 2:50pm Cal Fire Spokersperson Lisa Williams says the fire is 3-5 acres moderate rate of spread. Road closure at Lyons Bald Mountain Road and Greenely Road. There are structures in the area. No information at this time of any damage.

Update 3:16pm: Cal Fire confirms the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating residents in the Lyons Bald Mountain area. However, we do not have any numbers at this time. Cal Fire Spokersperson Lisa Williams says the fire is still 3 – 5 acres and is not growing, but stopped short of saying crews had stopped the forward rate of spread. Traffic is also backed up in the area of Greenley Road and Morning Star Road in Sonora so motorists will want to avoid the area.
