Sonora, CA — The Mother Lode Fair was a successful event for the local FFA and 4H kids. 4-H Tuolumne County Council President and Livestock Auction President Ron Hamilton says “We sold 105 animals for a total of $206,189.” Hamilton reported there were new buyers at the auction along with those that buy each year. There were 14 steers, 15 lamb, and 86 hogs sold.
Hamilton says, “Every year we have a great auction. We have had years where the economy has been better but every year the community comes out in this small town and they support these kids who have worked hard raising these projects.”
Hamilton says even though there have been years where the economy has been better the amount raised was consistent with other years. He said that the price per pound was solid and rewarding for all the students involved in the auction.
4H is for students from age 9 to 19, FFA is for high school students who are raising their agriculture projects.
