Too Slow In Sonora?
The Sonora City Council will discuss speed limits and the city's General Plan.
Up for discussion at Monday's City Council meeting will be whether to increase the posted speed limits in areas of South Washington Street, Lyons Street and Mono Way. The Tuolumne County Roads Department recently studied the speeds motorists were traveling in those areas, and most were already traveling well above the posted limits.
Lyons Street could see its limit increased to 35 mph, up by 10. South Washington Street, between Hospital Road and Highway 108, could be bumped up 5 mph to 40 mph. A portion of Mono Way, near the Sanguinetti Loop, could be also increased to 35 mph.
On a related topic former City Councilman, and Supervisorial candidate, Jim Hildreth has asked for time to give a speech about increased motorist speeds in Sonora and pedestrian safety.
In addition, the Council will hear a report from staff members about the Sonora General Plan 2020.
Monday's meeting begins at 5pm at Sonora City Hall.
