Mitt Romney For President?
Sonora, CA -- Mother Lode residents favor Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney over President Barack Obama by 66% in an informal myMotherlode.com poll.
Of note there were only two options, President Obama or Mitt Romney, which compares with several national polls. Rick Santorum's departure from the republican nominee race makes Mitt Romney the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
According to the Associated Press Romney has more than half the delegates needed to win the Republican National Convention. Some of the delegates representing the states that Santorum won can vote at the GOP Convention for any of the remaining nominees. Others are still obligated to place their votes for Santorum unless Santorum releases them.
According to a Rasmussen poll, "In a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup, Mitt Romney earns 48% of the vote, while President Obama attracts 44%."
Ron Paul's website states the Rasmussen poll also matched up him with President Obama. Ron Paul received 43% while President Obama had 41%. The results are posted here.
According to Fox News, "In a presidential matchup, Romney tops Obama by 46-44 percent if the election were today."
A washington Post-ABC News Poll asked on April 5-8 "If the presidential election were being held today and the candidates were Barack Obama (D) and Mitt Romney (R), for whom would you vote?" 51% said Obama 43% said Romney.
The most recent Gallup poll from March 25th asked registered voters: "Suppose the presidential election were held today. If Barack Obama were the Democratic Party's candidate and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney were the Republican Party's candidate, who would you vote for?" Those who were undecided are further asked if they lean more toward Obama or Romney and in that poll Obama leads 49% Romney 45%.
The myMotherLode results are consistant along party lines with a previous myMotherLode poll featuring President Obama versus several of the nominees. More on that in "Community Weighs In On Presidential Race."
