Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) Board members recognized third grade students last night for participating in this year's "Be A Water Saver" poster contest.
The winning students were Daniel Moore, from Tenaya Elementary, and Haidyn Mariscal, from Curtis Creek. Moore received the Grand Prize for her "Use Water Wisely" owl poster as seen in the photos. The teachers of the Grand Prize winners, Ellen Jeffery from Tenaya Elementary School, and Liz Miller of Curtis Creek Elementary School, received a $100 cash award. The award is be used towards the purchase of classroom supplies related to the study of water conservation.
Pete Kampa, District General Manager says, "Educating our youth is essential so that they understand how vital water resources are now and in the future."
Kampa went on to thank the Tuolumne County Master Gardeners and Rebecca Miller-Cripps, of the University of California Cooperative Extension Natural Resources Program, for their efforts in the conservation program.
For the past 24 years, TUD has been educating students on water, water conservation and future water needs. The program is presented to third graders in elementary schools throughout the county.
