Lungren And Denham Voted Out?
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not expect the two Congressmen that currently represent the Mother Lode to survive the upcoming election.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Pelosi specifically pointed out three races in California where she strongly expects Democrats to unseat incumbent Republicans this fall. They include Ami Bera's challenge of Dan Lungren and former astronaut Jose Hernandez's run against Jeff Denham. The other seat she references is in Riverside. Both Lungren and Denham will no longer represent the Mother Lode region because of Congressional redistricting. Lungren's new district covers areas of the Sacramento region while Denham's is in the Central Valley.
Democrats would have to pick up 25 seats nationwide for Pelosi to retain her position has House Speaker. "We believe they (Bera and Hernandez) will be joining the ranks of the Democratic majority come November," Pelosi told the AP. "We expect to do even more than that (in California), but at least in those three cases in the drive for 25 to take back the House."
Meanwhile, Republicans feel that there are at least two seats they could grab because of redistricting, which are currently held by Jerry McNerney and Lois Capps.
Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties will become part of a district represented by Republican Congressman Tom McClintock, who is expected to win re-election in the heavily conservative district.
