San Andreas, CA -- The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department reports that San Andreas Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown this week.

The Sheriff's Department received a call from school officials that a possible gunshot was heard outside the school. Deputies responded and locked the doors, searched the area and conducted quick interviews with people that also heard the sound. It was later discovered that a car had simply backfired in the area. The lockdown lasted approximately 20 minutes.
